      • The LDM30 Series of products isdesigned to allow video displayterminals (VDTs) and other RS-232devices to be connected overdistances sufficient to cover anyindustrial or institutional complex ofbuildings. These modems feature arugged aluminum enclosure smallenough to mount on the back panel of VDT units, saving valuable deskand floor space.The LDM30 Series is designed forfull-duplex, asynchronous operationover two, DC-continuity,non-loaded, twisted-wire pairs.Through special high-speedoptically-coupled circuits they may communicate at data rates up to57,600 baud. A self-powered modeland a host-powered model areavailable. The self-powered unituses 12 Vac from a wall-mountedtransformer while the host-poweredunit takes ±DC power from pins9 and 10 of the RS-232 connector.The modem circuits—and,consequently, the host device—areprotected from electrical transientsdue to lightning strikes or operationof heavy industrial equipment.Each device features a convenientData-Communication Equipment(DCE) to Data-Terminal Equipment(DTE) switch which reverses pins2 and 3 of the RS-232 connector.For installation and troubleshooting,each unit has diagnosticLight-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) on thetransmit and receive lines.The RS-232 connector may beordered as a male or female 25-pinconnector. Field connection is madethrough a modern, solderless,screw-termination assembly.Alternatively, a convenient four-wiremodular phone jack is available.
